Meta Ads for lead generation: instant forms or a landing page?

Meta's forms reduce friction; landing pages let you qualify better. We look at when each option makes sense and how to improve lead quality.

By Editorial team3 min read

When a company starts generating leads with Facebook and Instagram ads, it usually faces a choice: use Meta's instant forms, which are filled in without leaving the app, or send traffic to its own landing page?

There's no single answer. Each option has clear advantages, and the right choice depends on your goal, your sales capacity and the type of customer you're after.

Instant forms: less friction, more volume

The form opens inside Facebook or Instagram and is usually pre-filled with the user's profile details. That's why:

  • It's easy to submit. There are fewer steps and no waiting for another page to load.
  • It usually generates more leads for the same budget.
  • It doesn't depend on your website's speed.

The downside is that the same ease attracts people with less intent. It's common to get leads who don't remember leaving their details or don't answer the phone.

How to improve the quality of instant forms

  • Use the higher intent form type, which adds a review step before submission.
  • Include qualifying questions with closed options: type of company, approximate budget, timeline.
  • Explain in the intro what will happen next: “We'll call you within one working day to…”.
  • Connect the form to your CRM so you can follow up quickly. Speed of response has a big influence on the contact rate.

Landing page: more control and better qualification

Sending traffic to your own page adds a step, but gives you full control over the message and the experience:

  • You can explain the offer in detail, handle objections and show trust signals.
  • People who fill in the form have read more about you, so the lead is usually better qualified.
  • The data goes straight into your system, along with the campaign information.
  • The same page works for other channels, such as Google Ads or email.

In return, you need a fast, clear and well-tracked page. If the landing page loads slowly on mobile or doesn't continue the ad's message, you'll lose a good share of the clicks. We explain how in our landing pages service.

Which one to choose?

As a general guide:

  • Instant forms when the product is easy to understand, the sales cycle is short and your team can call many leads quickly.
  • Landing page when the sale is more consultative, the ticket is high, you need to explain a lot or you want to filter more before leads reach the sales team.

In many cases the best approach is to test both with the same budget and compare not just cost per lead, but what happens next: how many leads qualify and how many become customers.

Measure beyond cost per lead

Cost per lead is easy to calculate and misleading on its own. A form may generate leads at half the cost, but if half of them don't answer, the cost per real opportunity may be the same or worse.

To make good decisions:

  1. Record the source of each lead (campaign, ad, form or landing page).
  2. Mark in your CRM which leads qualify and which become customers.
  3. Compare the alternatives by cost per customer, not just per lead.

A note on privacy

Whether you use Meta forms or landing pages, you must explain how you'll process the data and link to your privacy policy. On your website, the Meta pixel should only fire once the user has accepted marketing cookies. That reduces the data available to the algorithm, but it's the right way to work and one more reason to look after the quality of your creatives and targeting.

Conclusion

More leads don't always mean more customers. Choose the format according to your sales process, qualify from the very first moment and measure all the way to the sale.
